The premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is expected to partner with the United States (US) based University of Michigan (UoM) in order to enhance research potential in the field of bio-medical sciences.

As per AIIMs officials, the two institutes will collaborate for advanced research in the areas of translational facets of immunology, stem cell biology as well as genetics, along with research on cancer care, trauma care, etc.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed between the two institutes today on November 14, 2013 in the presence of eminent personalities from the Indian health ministry. A committee of researchers and scientists from (UoM) is currently in Delhi to work out the modalities of the agreement.

AIIMs officials claimed that after a successful minor partnership with UoM, AIIMS is ready to expand the partnership to contribute in the field of bio-medical research. The framework for the collaborative venture is yet to be worked out. Since UoM is a leading medical university, the association between AIIMS and UoM will enhance research work to a great extent, the officials added.

AIIMs has also entered into partnerships Australia based Monash University and Alfred Health to boost the trauma-care set-up throughout India.

The Indian Government along with its Australian counterpart plans to invest more than 2.6 million dollars aided by the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund Grand Challenge Scheme. This scheme is expected to develop the best practices to provide relevant care for injured people.
