Nearly 5.11 lakh students are expected to take Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination in Cuttack this year. The Board of Secondary Education will conduct the exam from March 19, 2012 to March 31, 2012. The number of students appearing in matric exam has increased by 26000 this year.

This is the first time when Board of Secondary Education has received applications from more than 5 lakh students for HSC exam. The addition of new schools across the state is one of the probable reasons for the increase in number of registrations this year.

The HSC exam will be held at 2095 centers across the Orissa state. The exams will begin at 7:30 in the morning and end by 10 am.

The state board has also taken initiatives to keep a check on malpractices during examination. In 2011, more than 7000 candidates were caught using wrong means during exams. So to ensure glitch free exam, the board has decided to set up more squads.

In 2011, the board had created 90 squads to keep a check on malpractices but the number has been increased to 120 this year. The squad will include experienced and retired teachers to perform strict vigilance. Students should also be prepared for surprise raids and security checks at the exam centers.
