The registration process for the Common Admission Test 2013 (CAT ’2013), conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), commences today on Monday, August 5, 2013 and will continue till Thursday, September 26, 2013. CAT aptitude test is one of the most prestigious examinations in India for admission into the IIMs as well as other premier management institutes.
Other than the 13 IIMs, several business schools (B-schools) in India use CAT scores to grant admission to students into their management courses. This includes some of the most prestigious institutions such as SP Jain Institute of Management and Research-Mumbai, Mudra Institute of Communications-Ahmedabad, Faculty of Management Studies-Delhi, etc. CAT entrance test 2013 is expected to be implemented over a 20 day period, starting from Wednesday, October 16 to Monday, November 11, 2013, across 40 cities in India, which is an increase from 36 cities in 2012. The increase in the number of cities provides more options and convenience to students to choose an appropriate date for the CAT examination.
The IIMs launched e-vouchers in 2013 as well, wherein students will now be able to make online purchase of vouchers directly from the IIM CAT website, during the period of Monday, August 5 to Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Candidates will also be able to buy traditional registration/scheduling vouchers from specified branches of Axis bank from Monday, August 5 to Tuesday, September 24, 2013. In 2013, 30 more branches of Axis Bank have been added.
As per IIM officials, all the new provisions are being introduced to make the admission process more convenient for students, thereby making the entire process of the CAT CAT entrance exam as well as gaining entry into IIMs for thousands of aspirants across India smoother, which in turn will enhance their career prospects.
CAT entrance 2013 is expected to have 2 sections, just like the procedure in 2012. The main focus of the first section will be data interpretation and CAT quant, whereas for the second session it will be logical reasoning and CAT verbal ability.
