The CBSE (Central board of Secondary Education) has proposed for introducing CBSE-I curriculum in about 50 affiliated schools in India. The curriculum is already followed in 30 CBSE schools of 9 foreign countries.

The curriculum will be introduced in selected schools of India from the academic year commencing in 2011-12 from classes 1 to 9. Initially the CBSE-International curriculum will be implemented on trial basis in about 50 schools of India.

As per the CBSE chairman, the board aims at preparing a curriculum as per the changing global developments and current educational system. Hence it wants to design an international curriculum that will facilitate Indian students in pursuing higher education abroad or participate significantly in international markets for country’s development. Earlier the CBSE-I curriculum was introduced in nearly 25 CBSE schools of South Asia and Middle East on trial basis from class 1 to 9.

The curriculum has been designed to enhance creative and critical thinking abilities, interpersonal and mutual proficiencies, communication skills and media and information skills. Initially all interested CBSE affiliated schools of India can apply for the curriculum from which about 50 government and private schools will be shortlisted by the board to implement the curriculum.

The board will provide an orientation program for the selected schools before applying for the curriculum. The CBSE board will also train faculties of the schools in subjects such as content, philosophy, evaluation issues and methodology. The board will also provide guidance materials to help teachers and modules based on self-learning as internet based teacher assistance groups.

The students will be assessed on the basis of CCE evaluation system recently introduced by CBSE. The evaluation will be focused on testing the overall performance of the students. The present CBSE syllabus follows the NCF (National Curriculum Framework) 2005. The CBSE-I curriculum based on the important core elements of NCF will lead to a stress free, skill oriented and students friendly approach.
