Anna University has announced the Ranklist for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2009.

TNEA 2009 is a unified, single window admission process for over 1,35,000 seats in Engineering and Technology related courses.

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, TNEA 2009 is a unified single window admission system for admission into Bachelor of Engineering/Technology seats under Anna University's Departments, Anna University's affiliated institutes, Government and Government Aided Engineering Colleges and also for the seats surrendered by the Self-Financing Engineering Colleges.

It is estimated that an additional 25,000 seats will be available in undergraduate engineering degree programmes in the Tamil Nadu this year. The university has ordered 1.6 lakh applications for the TNEA 2009, which is 10% higher the number of forms sold last year. Sufficient counters have been set up in all the 58 centres in Tamil Nadu. At the Anna University in Chennai alone, 18 counters have been set up.
According to officials, There are nearly 140 applications pending to establish new self-financing engineering colleges before the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and eventually when some of the applications are approved, a considerable number of seats will be added to the existing intake. There would be a corresponding increase in the number of seats available under the government quota.

According to Anna University officials, Currently there are 354 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Of these, 333 colleges are being administered by private parties on a self-financing mode, 10 are Government and Government-aided institutions whereas the remaining 11 are University-administered colleges. Together these colleges have a cumulative intake of 1,34,481 in undergraduate programmes. This year, 84,555 seats are expected to be available under the common pool or government quota for TNEA this year, With over 41 course options being offered for BE/ B\.Tech aspirants.

Unlike other state entrance exams, Any Indian National may apply for admission through TNEA 2009. The issue of application forms for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2009 begins on 06th May,2009 across 58 centers in Tamil Nadu. This common application form will be sold for Rs.500 until May 30th 2009, except on Sundays and May 12th, 13th and 16th in view of the election schedule. The Last date for submission of completed application forms is 31st May, 2009.

TNEA 2009 rank list is expected by 25th June, 2009. Counseling for seats under TNEA 2009 is scheduled to begin on 5th July 2009. Counseling for students from other states is to be held from 20th July, 2009. The counseling is to end by 16th August, 2009.
