Admission Procedure for Engineering Courses in Karnataka
Computer Science, Electronics & Communications, Mechanical and Information Technology are the most sought after disciplines by students in Karnataka. Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology and BV Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering has the highest intake with more than 1000 seats each. Atleast 67 colleges have an intake of more than 400 seats.
Admission procedure for Engineering Courses in Karnataka:
Engineering aspirants must appear for
Students who have completed their 10+2 with minimum of 45% aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and should have appeared for at least one of the entrance exams above.
KEA conducts CET for admission to Engineering Colleges. Admission to Govt/University managed Engineering Colleges and Regional Engineering Colleges (Karnataka Quota) is completely regulated through CET. Selection is based on merit in CET. The selection Committee will interview the candidates and prepare a rank list based on performance in the entrance test, attainment etc.
Specified number of seats as notified from time to time in private/aided, unaided Engineering Colleges is left to be filled at the discretion of the college management.
Allocation of Seats: 95% for candidates passing PUC exam from Karnataka and 5% for candidates passing Diploma exam of the State Board of Technical Education.
According to the seat sharing agreement, the colleges are supposed to collect Rs 32,000 as fees from the students who join them through the government quota while collecting Rs 1.25 lakh from the students who get admitted directly. Check here for more details on CET, Karnataka
Comedk is a parallel entrance test held by the Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association under the name of Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comedk). This is independent of the government CET and is used to fill up private management's quota of seats in certain engineering/medical/dental colleges in Karnataka. Non-Karnataka students can appear for the Comedk.
Comedk UGET scores will decide admission to 30% of seats in 140 engineering, 40% of seats in 12 medical and 60% of seats in 26 dental colleges, which are part of the consortium.
