Clash between MANIT and ex students over alumni association Former students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal and authorities at the institute are in a tussle over the functioning of alumni association of the NIT. The group of former students led by Bhupendra Gupta, a businessman claims that the current alumni association of the college is invalid. He claimed that the alumni association was formed by the MANIT authorities but it does not meet the conditions to operate the association in MANIT. Even the existing students have been included in the association which makes it invalid. He leads an alumni association, MACI (MACT Alumni for Social Initiatives) where an online election was done to choose the office bearers. MACI has participated in many social work activities unlike its counterpart, which is run by MANIT. It also supported students and protested against the wrong behavior by MANIT officials when jaundice broke out at the institute. However, alumni coordination cell of the institute stated that the alumni association run by MANIT is the only valid association. The MANIT alumni association was inaugurated on April 30, 2012.
