IIT-Bombay announced the commencement of a national level robotics competition called as E-Yantra on Tuesday, July 3, 2012. The E-Yantra is sponsored by HRD ministry under the National Mission for ICT in Education (NMEICT) programme.

Unlike other competitions, E-Yantra facilitates participating students with a robot developed by the IIT-Bombay and asks them to find solutions to pre-define tasks through these robots.

The E-Yantra competition is open to all undergraduate students of engineering. Participating groups will be given a robotic platform to provide a solution using the provided resources within a time span of 12 weeks.

The aim of this programme is to make robotics accessible to students across various disciplines and create a pool of ideas and applications through channelizing robotics in daily life created by engineering students working on embedded systems.

Earlier, students had to create their own robot to proceed in any robotic project. Now the students have easy access to a robot which can be used to provide a sophisticated solution. The next stage will be the National Robotics Competition and the E-Yantra will climax at the IITB Techfest in January 2013.
