Kerala HC directs AICTE to consider cancelling affiliations of self financing engineering colleges

The Kerala High Court (HC) on Thursday, June 28, 2012 ordered the All India Technical Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to consider cancelling affiliations given to self-financed engineering colleges that lack infrastructure and have low pass percentages.

The decision was taken by the court after studying the reports submitted by a committee appointed by the court at these colleges.

A seven member committee was formed to conduct inspections at various self-financing colleges; following a HC order on January 18, 2011 .The committee reported that a lot of colleges inspected lacked necessary infrastructure and staff.

The report submitted by the committee consisted of information on raids conducted at 4 colleges under Kannur University, 19 under Cochin university of Science and Technology, 24 under the University of Calicut, 27 colleges under the Mahatma Gandhi University and 31 colleges under the University of Kerala.
