NITs begin counseling for BTech and MTech courses
The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) have started counseling for admission to BTech and MTech courses through the 'online choice filling'. While NIT-Jaipur is in charge of coordinating the MTech programmes, NIT-Rourkela is managing the undergraduate (UG) programmes. Counseling for the MTech programmes is on under the Centralized counseling for MTech admissions (CCMT-2012).
NIT-Trichy has completed the first round of counseling and seat allotments.
Although the CCMT coordinates admissions to top 20 NITs in the country, admission to the 30 NITs are processed by it based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Results.
As per the NIT-Trichy sources, institute has allotted 524 seats for PG course (20 seats in one subject and 28 seats per subject for the other 18 subjects). The candidates who secure seats must pay Rs.10, 000 as an initial payment using the online e-challan. However, the provisional seat allocation will be finalized only after verification of all original documents and testimonials.
Officials revealed that candidates can choose as many courses as they want online. They added that VLSI (Very Large Scale integration) and communications system are two of the popular courses that many students opt for. Four rounds of counseling will be conducted, with the last one being scheduled to take place between July 16 and July 20, 2012.
NIT-Trichy has about 768 UG seats across 9 courses up for grabs. While chemical engineering and metallurgy have 62 seats each, production engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, electronics and communications engineering and instrumentation controlling engineering have about 92 seats each.
Candidates who do not get their preferred course in the first round of counseling, which will take place between June 28 and July 2 2012, can take part in the second and third rounds of counseling.
Candidates who are unable to use the online choice filling process can approach any of the help desks, across the country. However, in Tamil Nadu, only NIT-Trichy will be available and classes will begin in the third week of July. The fourth round of seat allocation will begin on July 25, 2012 and candidates who get admission in this round will have to directly report to their respective NITs. A final round of allocations will be held on August 3 and August 6, 2012 for students who are yet to get admissions.
