First pan-IIM world management conference held at Goa

From Thursday, May 30 to Saturday, June 1, for the 1st time, the IIM (Indian Institute of Management) fraternity organized "Emerging Issues in Management"- a pan-IIM world management conference, at Goa. The lead coordinator of this conference was IIM Calcutta, a team of senior faculty members and administrative staff.

About 2 years back, IIMs gained the experience of jointly organizing a conference. IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Calcutta and IIM-Ahmadabad together organized India Finance conference.  But, this time, all the 13 IIMs came together, which made it more exciting and challenging for all.

On Friday, May 31, the MHRD (Minister of Human Resource Development), Pallam Raju in presence of the deans and directors of some of the IIMs, inaugurated the conference. Shashi Tharoor was present at the conference as guest of honour and the Ambassador of France to India Francois Richier was the special guest. Other prominent keynote speakers included Geet Sethi, World professional billiards champion and Prof Srikant M Datar, professor of Harvard Business School, among others.

Focus was given on certain broader topics such as, future of management education, managing people, inclusive growth, looking beyond profits and the firm of the future.

Open discussions were carried out among alumni of various IIMs, industry professionals, industry professionals, researchers and professors on various topics of their respective domains. Some leading research scholars from India and abroad presented around 29 papers while some PhD scholars presented about 12 poster sessions.

About 2 panel discussions were also held in the conference. The topics covered were -

  1. "Innovation and Inclusive Growth"
  2. "Government and Business"
