IIT JEE 2012 results out !
Arpit Agarwal, a student of Faridabad's Modern Vidya Niketan School,Delhi has topped the list with 385 marks out of 408. Bijoy Kochar from Chandigarh grabbed the second position whereas Nishant Kaushik from Bhilai grabbed the third position.
Out of the total of 4,79, 651 applicants who took the exam conducted on April 8 this year, 24,112 secured ranks in different categories and 19,426 have been selected for counseling for admission against 9,647 seats in IITs and other institutes.
Counseling website will be available for shortlisted students from today and choice of courses can be filled till 5 PM on June 10, 2012.
A total of 1,50,431 girls took IIT JEE this year out of which 2,886 secured ranks and the first 1908 have been shortlisted for counseling. Besides IITs, ISM Dhanbad and IT-BHU, Varanasi will also accept JEE scores for admissions this year.
The 15 IITs accepting IIT-JEE scores are IIT-Bhubaneshwar, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Indore, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Mandi, IIT-Madras, IIT-Patna, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Rajasthan, IIT-Ropar. Other institutes admitting students on the basis of IIT-JEE Results are Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Rae Bareli, Indian Maritime University (TS Chanakya, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai campus, Marine Engineering & Research Institute, Kolkata, National Maritime Academy, Chennai, Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam) and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram.
This year IIT-JEE was in controversies due to the 2 wrong questions given in the question paper. The examiners allotted zero marks to the test takers for those 2 questions.
Students can get their AIR (All India Ranks)/ Category ranks by logging onto IIT-JEE 2012 websites/SMS/IVRS on or after May 18, 2012.
The candidates who attempted both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will only be eligible for ranking. Physics marks of IIT JEE 2012 will be calculated by adding marks in Physics section of Paper 1 and Physics section of Paper 2. In a similar way total marks for Chemistry and Mathematics paper will be calculated. The total of the marks secured in individual subjects in IIT JEE 2012 will be the candidate’s aggregate marks.
To qualify IIT JEE a student is required to secure a minimum of 10% marks in each of the three subjects and atleast 35% to obtain a rank.
