MAT May 2012 Analysis
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) 2012 was conducted by All India Management Association commenced on Sunday, May 06, 2012. Nearly 32,000 MBA aspirants took the exam for taking admission into top B-schools. The exam went off well without any glitches as no complaints were reported from any exam centers till the exam got over. Candidates felt the level of difficulty for the exam as moderate.
The paper pattern of the exam was similar as observed in past years. The MAT question paper was divided into 4 sections, namely Mathematical Skills, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Indian & Global Environment and Language Comprehension. The duration of the exam was 170 minutes.
Let us now analyze the different sections of paper along with the overall difficulty level of each of the test area.
Mathematical Skills –
The questions in this section were moderate and mostly questions came from arithmetic and remaining questions were based on advanced mathematics. The questions in arithmetic were from Equations, Averages, Time Work & Distance, Ratio & Proportion, Mixtures & Alligations, Variation, Profit and Loss Partnership, Percentage, Mensuration, Interest etc. Questions from advanced mathematics include Probability, Height & Distance, Permutation & Combination and Trigonometry.
Intelligence & Critical Reasoning –
The questions in this section were a combination of Critical Reasoning and Analytical Reasoning. Questions in Analytical Reasoning were based on Direction Sense, Venn Diagram etc. The Critical Reasoning part had questions in Cause and Effect, Assertion and Reasons and Statement and Conclusions. Overall the level of difficulty was moderate.
Data Analysis & Sufficiency –
This section consists of questions from Data Comparison, Data Sufficiency and Data Analysis. The questions under Data Interpretation were based on various graphs and charts. The questions under Data Sufficiency & Data Comparison were simple and the level of difficulty was moderate.
Indian & Global Environment –
This section consists of questions related to general awareness. The questions on Current Affairs were based on business, renowned personalities, latest affairs etc. Moderate level of difficulty was seen in this section.
Language Comprehension –
The level of difficulty in this section were moderate. Questions under this section were related to Verbal Ability. This sector had questions based on Reading Comprehension plus English Usage. Three Reading Comprehension passages were there in this section. Fill in the blanks, Synonyms/Antonyms, Para Jumbles, Odd Man Out etc.
