Q. Briefly tell us about the institute, who’s concept was to build Globsyn?
Globsyn was founded by Mr. Bikram Dasgupta, an IIT Kharagpur and Harvard Business School Alum and a serial entrepreneur. Since its inception in 1997, Globsyn has pioneered several firsts in the city of Kolkata, from INFINITY – the first IT park in Kolkaka, to TechnoCampus the first Software Finishing School and later to Globsyn Business School – the first corporate B-School in India. Globsyn Business School is based on a farsighted vision – to develop managers who would be able to apply structured solutions to unstructured problems of real-world business and social environment. The curriculum is designed to provide a globally networked, corporate savvy and research driven management system, where the managers of tomorrow, learn to equip themselves with tools that go beyond the traditional forms of management education and are able address the challenges posed by the fast changing business environment of today. In order to ensure that the students are armed with adequate knowledge and skills to handle real life situations, they are exposed to a number of corporate connect programs. The corporate connect programs allow them to experience, deal and test their managerial abilities to the optimum, in the present dynamic work life setting of the real business world. In keeping with its ethos of providing relevant and academically superior programs to its students, GBS has collaborated with, among the best, international and national academic institutions like Freeman School of Business, Tulane University and University of Evansville in USA, University of Glasgow and Coventry University in Europe.

Q. What are the courses offered?
Globsyn Business School Program Descriptions:
PGPM: Post Graduate Program in Management, GBS’s flagship 24 months program, is now into its 8th batch with an enviable 100% placement record for all its previous batches. The curriculum offers an amalgamation of best of breed management programs including the IIMs.
PGPIB: (Post Graduate Program in International Business): In tune with International Business and Foreign Trade Management programs pf premiere national and global institutes, the PGPIB is a general management program focused towards International marketing, International Finance, International Logistics & Distribution and IPR. The program combines the best of Indian management basics in domains like International marketing, Finance, IS, HR, Operations with global business excellence through its academic alliance with the University of Glasgow.
Executive PGPM: An 18 months program for working executive with 12 months of classroom based studies with 6 months of industry practice/internship in alliance with University of Evansville.
PGDSEBM: The Post Graduate Diploma in System Engineering and Business Management is offered jointly with Jadavpur University, among India’s top technology education institutions. A uniquely positioned program to prepare business managers for the technology industry with the requisite technical knowledge. Examinations are conducted by Jadavpur University. Diplomas are also awarded by them.
PGDAEIM: A joint program with the University of Calcutta, one of India’s oldest universities, offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Economics and Information Management for the fast evolving data analytics and information management market. Examinations are conducted by the University of Calcutta. Diplomas are also awarded by them.
MDP: GBS regularly conducts Management Development Programs in Kolkata for a wide range of corporate audience. Topics such as ‘Integrated Management’, ‘Finance for non-finance professionals’, ‘Strategic Brand Building’, ‘Team Building and Leadership’, are among the most popular subjects.
In-house Corporate Trainings: GBS also conducts customised trainings for corporate houses on a wide variety of subjects. Tata Motors, Metal Junction, Titan, Lafarge Cements and among some of the customers. Areas covered are marketing, Finance, HR, Soft skills etc.
MBA/PGDBM: These programs are offered in collaboration with Coventry University, UK. Students undergo two terms at GBS before leaving for the UK to complete the program. M.Sc. – IM/: Offered in collaboration with the Glasgow University, UK. Students undergo two semesters at GBS before leaving for the University of Glasgow, UK, to complete the program either in International Business or International marketing. PGDM: International Finance: Offered in collaboration with the Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, top of the line Finance program has visiting faculty from Tulane University. Students also cover two advanced modules at Tulane along with an exposure of working on a ‘live’ simulated trading floor.

Q. Tell us about the admission process at Globsyn.
All students seeking admission to Globsyn Business School are required to take the CAT or XAT and selection is made on the basis of its scores. The preliminary selection is followed by a series of elimination tests including Group Discussion, Personal Interview, Thematic Apperception Test and Audio Visual Presentation.

Q. Is there any sector of function specific focus while targeting companies for placement?
The major focus areas are the promising and growth oriented sectors comprising of BFSI, Manufacturing, IT, ITeS, Market Research and Consultancy. Depending on the specialization undertaken by the student, the function specific roles are targeted for placement in the companies coming to campus.

Q. Does your institute offer scholarships or loans?
GBS offers meritorious student's four different kinds of scholarship schemes to help them self-fund their education at GBS. Q. Where are the branches of this institute? And what are future plans for the institute?
Globsyn Business School has two sprawling campuses in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. The plans are underway to take Globsyn Business School to many other parts of India. In the next few years Globsyn plans to open three more campuses in different states of India and the locations for the same are being finalized.
