CAT 2009 Day 2 Exam Analysis
- Based on the feedback received from the students who took the CBT CAT during the first two days, the initial impressions about CAT 2009 are as follows:
- As announced earlier by Prometric, the number of questions was 60.
- There were 3 sections as in previous CAT Papers namely – Verbal, LR/DI and QA with 20 question from each.
- Students can expect higher number of questions from Number Systems and lesser number of questions from Geometry, P & C, Functions and Probability.
- Most of the high performers in Mocks have reported attempting around 40 questions, Attempting 13-15 questions in English, and about 12 questions each in Quant and DI - Section-wise.
- Students might need to devote more time while solving DI questions where as they can compensate for the same by devoting average of 45 minutes for VA questions and even lesser time to QA section questions.
- In RC passages students can expect 2-3 questions per passage and can also expect to find questions like word jumbles, fill in the blanks, appropriate usage of words and passage completion.
- Logical Reasoning questions can be expected to be lengthy with around 2 questions per set whereas in RC section students are advised to fine tune their Business related (Newspapers/Magazines like Economic Times, business world etc) Article reading skills.
- Data Interpretation cut-off might be expected to come down below the 40% from previous years as questions in DI might need intensive calculations this time around.
- Paper pattern was almost similar to previous CATs although the paper was a notch easier than CAT 2008
- While English was similar in difficulty level as last year, the RC passages were shorter. Quantitative Team was easier than the previous years'. DI section was a little time consuming.
One Minglebox user who took the CAT at Indore gave us negative feedback about the lack of basic amenities like drinking water etc., at the test site while the candidates at giving the test at that slot were made to wait for over 3 hours more than the scheduled time at which the test was to begin. This user also added that QA, DI, DS and LR questions were quite easy but in VA section, the options given could give students a tough time.
Another user who took the test at Ahmedabad reported that for up to almost 4 questions, He was unable to choose his answers as the options were not clear. The user also added that the paper was easy when compared to last year's CAT 2008 question paper.
Yet Another test taker who was scheduled to take his test at Bhopal whereas the candidate is from Jabalpur. This test taker reached the venue to be made before 1.30 PM for his test slot scheduled at 330 PM. Just before 3.30 PM, the coordinator reportedly told candidates their test slot was canceled due to which the candidate returned to Jabalpur after being informed that he will be contacted within a day for details about rescheduling his test.
After waiting for more than a day, this candidate called Prometric Candidate Care to only to find out that his test had already been scheduled for 3.30 PM slot of the next day. Shocked that he was not even informed about the same beforehand and was now expected to reach the test city venue of Bhopal all teh way from Jabalpur in the next hour, he tried putting his point across that he could not travel to Bhopal from Jabalpur on such short notice and asked to be connected with some officials who could help. But, the candidate was put on hold for a long time before the he finally gave up his CAT 2009 dream.
