Nafeesha - Hi Everyone,the
Live Chat will start at 2:00 pm Please wait for Mr. Pankaj Tawde of
IMS to come online to ask him your doubts and queries.
Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Hi, Pankaj here! I would now welcome questions from your end. Nafeesha - Hi everyone, lets give a very warm welcome to Mr. Pankaj Tawde. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Thanks Nafeesha, am ready for the questions. Sauraj - sir tell me basics about GD. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - The GD provides management schools an opportunity to test how well structured your thought process is, when faced with a situation and how well you work with teams A GD might not conclusively prove whether or not candidates possess the above abilities, but, it gives a fair idea of their potential for structured thinking and their ability to work with teams. Deepak Chauhan - sir can u tell me the topics for GD. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - GDs are of different types I. One line Topics II. Case Studies III. Abstract Topics IV. Newspaper articles. Prabhat - how should we initiate GD after entering in to room? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - The first and one of the most crucial parts of a GD is the "Introduction" or the comments made by the candidate who introduces the topic. It is said to be a high-risk high-gain strategy. Making the opening remarks, or in other words, the person who is starting the GD is expected to: I. Define the TOPIC II. Define the FRAMEWORK. Khyati - What is the relevance of facts and figures in GD how can a person remember all that data at once? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Facts and figures can be remembered only by being in touch with the environment regularly through magazines and newspaper. There are no short cuts.\ Sudhanshu - How to enter the GD sir? When the applicants are jumping like hot popcorns.. All because of the arguments or the discussion? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - when a lot of people are speaking together there will be a point when the volume goes down make sure you enter there. Deepak Chauhan - Sir, if we don't know anything about any of the topics given, what do we do? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - As a Thumb Rule, If you are not clear about the topic or have little content use SLEPT technique relate the topic to Social Legal Economical Political and Technological environment and you will have content to speak. for ex: a topic like Women are better managers try relating Managers' qualities to the impact they create in SLEPT environment. Everyone please note here that, the last round of the business-school selection process is the Personal Interview. Candidates reaching the GD/PI rounds have already demonstrated that they have the academic aptitude required for being managers. But the chances of making it are difficult. Reshma - I have submitted my application. But I have heard mostly questions are asked related to our hobbies and interest. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Hobbies and interest are the only things which make an individual confident. As the person is 100% committed to it. Khyati - what should be our main focus when we speak? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - In GD Focus should be on the content and the structure of the content. Deepak Chauhan - What should I tell the PI panel if they ask me why my marks in the 10th and 12th were not good? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - 10 and 12th marks areimportant because at that age apart from some extra curricular activities studies is the only full time activity you should have. If you have missed any of 10th and 12th be true to your interviewers. Abhinav - is CAT going to be online by now? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - CAT 09 will be online. Abhinav - how to prepare for that? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - hey have not confirmed the format whether it will be computer adaptive or linear. Mayuri - I have completed my graduation in 2008. When asked, what have I done these days? What should be my answer? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - you have to appreciate that interviewers are senior members and have been interviewing people for ages. Make sure you speak the truth. Rahul - sir I completed my graduation on 07 what can I answer if I'm asked what I have done in the last one year? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - if you have been preparing for CAT say so nothing wrong in saying but you need to be clear about your future goals. Everyone make note, How to answer, "Why MBA". Most B-school aspirants sometimes tend to answer this question by talking about how good an MBA degree is, instead of talking about why they chose to pursue an MBA. Answer instead why and how did you decide to do an MBA. Khyati - Sir, what should we do while dealing with an abstract topic? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - An Abstract GD tests the participant's creativity. It is similar to a brainstorming session where the objective is to come up with a wide range of perspectives on a non-standard problem, including some ideas, which may be fairly novel or far. Balmukand - hello sir my confidence level is very low. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - start building on content read newspapers your confidence is low because u do not have content. Read newspapers and half the problems will be solved. Abhinav - Will attempting 'pen-paper' mock tests help in case there is online CAT pattern? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - paper based mock test will certainly help because CAT will continue to test on English Math and LR DI if u r strong on concepts you will do well irrespective of the format of the test. Isa - can I know about the questions related to GD and PI? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - in any interview questions will be based on APPLE Academic Personal Professional Logical and Environment. Sunil - hello sir can you give some tips to crack GD/PI? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - following skills are being evaluated in the GDs Idea generation, lateral thinking & clarity of thought, Prioritization and sequencing to display logical thinking, Initiative, Communication skills, Group Dynamics, Environmental sensitivity. Deepak Chauhan - Sir what do I say if the PI panel asks me why I didn't get good marks in 10th and 12th? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - nothing wrong in not getting good marks in 10 and 12. I am sure if u can demonstrate to the interviewers the commitment u have for your career today things will be fine. Sudhanshu - sir, i started my B\.Tech in 2003 and it's not completed yet. I'm waiting for my 8th semester results. This happened all because of the cancellation of the affiliation of our university. Now, there is a big gap. So, what should be my answer for this kind of question? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - if the reason is genuine i am sure you will not be rejected because of this. Mani - sir, in GD if I start discussion first will I get more marks? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - you will get good marks if you give a good introduction which defines the topic and gives a framework. But if these two things are missing then it is difficult to get marks. Khyati - well sir I'm a medical graduate and what should be my most probable answer to the question why MBA? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Every organisation requires five basic functions Marketing, Finance, HR operations, and Systems so MBA is relevant to every qualification. Sudhanshu - can a panel ask anyone to conclude d GD? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - yes any one can be asked to conclude. Shruti - what does HR includes? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - HR includes Recruitment, Training and Development, and Retaining. Shruti - sir what if they ask why MBA after BSc for I have heard its more relevant for commerce people. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - assuming you're a chemistry BSc. After BSc you can work in industry related to chemicals. Where they require people from Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations and Systems background so in a chemistry related organisation your Bsc will certainly help. Mani - sir, in GD if I remember some of my points are wrong after I've said the, what should I do? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - you apologize and try to justify the context in which you were speaking. Reshma - sir I am doing last year of B.com and with it have done my ICWAI - inter stage - 1.if they ask me why MBA then? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - CWA deals with work management accounts and with your MBA you can go into corporate finance. Sudhanshu - can I show a work experience of working in my dad's organisation during a gap between my graduation and today? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Yes you can, provided you have worked there and you a lot about your business. Lohana - Sir I have done graduation in fashion technology. Will HR be suitable stream for me? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Yes fashion industry like any other service industry is people dependent. HR is required in every organisation Lohana - sir is there any special attire for PI? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - be formally dressed and make sure you're comfortable in what you're wearing. Amit - sir sometime I feel lack of confidence in any strange places, like during the GD/PI so in that case what should i do sir. And my next question, can we speak Hindi in PI sometime. Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Hindi may not be appreciated. Today the global language is English do not worry about your language skills if you have content you will impress the panelist. Sudhanshu - Can we be aggressive during GD sir? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - you can be assertive not aggressive. If you have good content people will listen to you no need to be aggressive. Mukeshren - what kind of personal questions are asked in PI? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - Academic Personal (strengths weakness) professional logical environmental. Shruti - sir what is more important academic base, extra curricular activities, GK or just a boost of confidence level to excel in GD/PI? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - your clarity of thoughts and your clarity regarding your career. In your interview you have an opportunity to guide the interviewer. Abhay - what will be the effect if I change my opinion on a subject in the middle of GD? Pankaj Tawde: IMS - if the whole group/you speak something irrelevant.
