The Common Admission Test (CAT) Computer Based Test takers have been complaining since 28th November,2009 (1st CAT DAY) about the difficulties that they had faced during the exam and that they were not much satisfied with their performance. As a sigh of relief the Indian Institutes of Managements have come up with an idea of reducing the weightage for the CAT score.

IIM Ahmedabad will give less weightage to CAT score as compared to personal interview (like last year), it will also give importance to essay writing, Class X and XII scores, but the highest weightage would be given to a candidate's performance in the personal interview. They did not disclose the amount of weightage they will give to CAT.

IIM Bangalore
will also follow IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore wont conduct any group discussion instead it will give students 30 minutes to write an essay on topics like current political, economic and business affairs, and sports and other topics that require more creative thinking. CAT score will be given some merely 20 points.

IIM Kozhikode had always placed the highest weightage on CAT scores all these years which used to be around 90 points but this year they have decided to reduce it to 50 points. Instead they will consider candidates' performance in Class-X and XII examinations and also their work experience. They don’t consider the technical glitches in CAT as the reason of their change; they had wanted to bring in this change for the past two-three years. But it’s good for the aspirants that it happened from this year onwards.

IIM Lucknow
will place 30 points on CAT scores and the remaining 70 points would depend on their performance in group discussion, personal interview, Class-X and XII marks and work experience. They want to bring more diversity in their campus.

IIM Calcutta
has still now not declared any changes in their selection process.

Even the new IIMs which are expected to start this academic year ,Trichy, Ranchi, Rohtak and in Rajasthan have not yet taken any decision on the selection procedure.

ayush7645 : Well, 10th and 12th marks are given minimal weightage. So if you have not done well you can still gain it back in the CAT score or GD/PI and if you done well...than it's just an added advantage.

siddheshwar5255 : If the student not well at Tenth and twelth level and good in CAT score; what about them
