Anand: Hi. Anand here. I would now welcome questions from your end! Ankita: What should be the ideal no of attempts in MAT when accuracy is about 75-80% Anand: MAT is a test where if you don’t get a score of above 700, the best colleges may not call u for GD & PI. Considering that there should be about 120- 125 questions that you should attempt. Please note that GK questions are not included in this as GK is not considered for the overall score and percentile. That means 120-125 out of 160 questions. Rima: Good afternoon sir I wanted to ask if we can cover the score if we are a little poor in math. Anand: yes you can. Considering there are 40 questions in math if you attempt 10 or so and you do well in the other sections you can get the score of 700 plus. Ankita: sir what if we do not attempt any of the GK questions? Anand: I wouldn’t advise not attempting GK but don’t spend time on it try to answer 5-10 questions and you will get that no. of easy questions. Gajendra: What would be a good MAT score. Anand: A score of 700 and above is a good score. Ankita: I got 60% in quant and for the rest of the sections it was in 90's still I didn’t get calls from EMPI, Alliance. Anand: It is not the percentile which matters but the absolute score. You require a score of 700, individual sectional scores can vary. I think 710 is good enough for Allianz and EMPI, but they may not accept Sep 2008 MAT... you may have to take the Dec/Feb MAT. Yashovardhan: what are the expected topics from G.K in the December 08 MAT exam? Anand: The expected topics cud be anything from the constitution of India to business awareness. Please read up on events of last six months. This section is not very important. Attempt 5-10 questions that u know for sure! Ankita: what’s the general percentile cut off for alliance via CAT/MAT/XAT? Anand: please note for CAT it could be from 80-85%ile and the same for XAT, for MAT it should be 700+! Alok Dixit: Where should I focus more? Which are the best media colleges? Anand: focus on the area of strength, please note an attempt of 120-125 questions would be apt!! There aren't any great colleges for media under MAT... CAT or SNAP would be the kill. Yashovardhan: can we expect any questions from the previous years papers? Anand: please do not expect any repeat telecast from last years MAT-channel! Prerna: want to know about GK in MAT & is the score of GK considered or not. Anand: GK in MAT is generally not included in the score card main column. It’s given below, don’t leave the section blank also but don’t waste time on this. Simisami: wanted to know about the GK section in MAT and what would be the ideal number of attempts. Anand: 120 to 125 without GK. Prerna: in which section can we score the most? Anand: it depends on the area of your strength. Mayur: I want to know if my score will increase if I attempt some more questions in GK. Anand: your GK marks are not included. Prerna: how many questions should one attempt in English if I give 40 mins to it? Anand: there are 40 questions in English. Attempt all of them. Khyati: what is the optimum score one can target for? Anand: anything above 700. Prerna: am not good in vocabulary what should I do, leave those questions? Anand: only one week is left, try solving some question papers.  Alok Dixit: Sir English is a scoring subject but we feel the lack of time management. Anand: spend equal time in all the four sections if u find time management difficult. Khyati: How many marks can one question make us gain? Anand: the marking for MAT questions is not very clear.... it may range from 4-6. Ankita: What are the top 5 MAT colleges? Anand : 1. ALLIANCE, BLORE 2. PSG COIMBATORE 3. CHRIST BLORE 4. NILM DELHI 5. AMITY DELHI Karthikeyan: is guessing or attempting the well known question enough? Anand: don’t guess, as there are negatives. Subnis: what is maximum limit of the cutoff in Ramaiah Bangalore. Anand: it should be about 650+ Yashovardhan: is there negative marking for the December 08 exam? What score is accepted at Christ Bangalore, St Joseph’s? Anand: there are negatives for most of the MBA exams. Christ will be about 700+, Joseph’s 650+ Prerna: what colleges other than Symbiosis is good for MBA in Pune? Anand: there are no great colleges under MAT in Pune but you could enquire with them if you are from Pune. Lokanathpatnaik: I am facing a lot of problem in math. I am really weak in this section, what shall I do? Anand: you have just one week left try working out some earlier question papers. Ranu: how much does work experience matter? Anand: work experience comes up at the time of admission not during exam. Yashovardhan: what questions carry more marks? Anand: we will not know which are the questions with more marks. Rajdyuti: which colleges in Bombay are good enough under MAT with regards to faculty and placements? Anand: Wellingkars used to take MAT check up on that. Stancy: does IMS has any restrictions on selling its course material to outsiders..(who r not the students of IMS)?? Anand: please contact the nearest the IMS center. Karthikeyan: Sir give some last min preparation tips. Anand: please work out a few question papers which are available in minglebox. Subnis: will colleges accept total score or will they consider only the cutoffs in each section. Anand: only overall scores are normally taken but please don’t leave any section blank. Stancy: which are the key areas to be focused in quant area and what is the level of difficulty of these questions MAT? Anand: there are 5 sections of 40 questions each one language 2 math 3 logical reasoning 4 data interpretation 5 GK. They are all relatively easy questions. Deepankar: sir, if I attempt 32*3 and 20 in language with 85% accuracy then my score will be near about [marks and percentile]? Anand: that is not enough it has be 25*3 and all the English questions minimum. Subnis: what is 25*3? Anand: 3 sections of 25 questions. Rajdyuti: that will be 3 sections excluding GK? Anand: yes 3 sections excluding GK and the 4th section in full. Stancy: sir please guide me on the key areas to be focused on in maths section. Anand: numbers, geometry, time speed and distance, time and work, profit and loss, simple and quadratic equations. Rajdyuti: how is Alliance business school? Anand: Alliance Banglore is a decent Bschool under MAT. Taurani: sir how is Amity? Anand: Amity is slightly expensive under MAT. Nafeesha: That is all we have for today afternoon.
