Q1. Could you briefly tell us about the SMOT                               


SMOT School of Business is an academic body  that offers Quality Higher Education in Management with a view to empower the youth with leadership qualities that would enable them to face any kind of challenges in the nation building exercise. SMOT School is professionally run and managed by the progressively minded group of professionals organized as Golden Academy of Higher Education Pvt. Ltd. The promoters, a group of Businessmen with over four decades of standing have joined with eminent Academicians in positioning the Institution as a credible Business School that would work in tandem with the Industry in a mutually beneficial manner.


Q2. What are the Courses offered?


SMOT collaborated with professional bodies, research institutions and universities to offer well recognized and industry relevant diplomas and certificate and one such collaboration is with Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada to offer the 18 months Postgraduate Diploma In Business Administration (PGDBA) in the regular mode and 24 months Postgraduate Diploma In Business Administration (PGDBA) in the weekend mode.

SMOT has also collaborated  with Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu to offer the 18 months Postgraduate Diploma In Business Administration (PGDBA) in the regular mode and 24 months Postgraduate Diploma In Business Administration (PGDBA) in the weekend mode.

SMOT is also a study centre of Bharathidasan University to offer MBA program


Q3. What is your faculty strength?


The SMOT- academic council is constantly in tune with the industry’s dynamic demands and provides students with an up to date curriculum. The academic offering is on par with global standards, with in house faculty and faculty drawn primarily from renowned professional bodies and top institutions in India and abroad


Q4. Tell us about your Admission process at SMOT .


Prospective candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA can submit their duly filled in applications either in person or by post or online along with necessary enclosures. Candidates would have to take SMOT Aptitude Test (SAT) followed by GD & Personal Interview. Candidates who have valid CAT / MAT / XAT / TANCET scores are exempted from appearing for SMOT Aptitude Test at the discretion of the selection panel.


Q5.  What is the cut-off (in relevant entrance exams) for candidates to be called for a GD and PI.


One thing is sure if one applys to SMOT, one is sure to get a fair chance at the admission process. At SMOT, due weightage is given to the personal interview as well as the profile of the candidate as much as competitive scores. There is no limiter to such of those candidates provided they are good at the interview stage.


Q6. What kind of background and profile does your institute look for in new students?  

What weightage is given to pre-MBA work experience?

Even though we prefer students with work experience, the overall profile of the candidate and performance at the Personal Interview is most important for securing admission


Q7.  Is there any sector or function specific focus while targeting companies for Placement?


We have a very active Placement Cell, which starts working from day one the students are admitted and depending on the composition of the batch and their interest appropriate companies are targeted for Placements.


Q8. What is the placement record like? How many companies do you have on your placement list and how many new companies do you get each year?


This year the placement record is 100%. We have about 40 companies on our Placement list and depending on the composition of each batch and need new companies are identified for inclusion in the Placement List.


Q9. Do you foresee any difficulty in placing students taking into account the current market climate?


As already mentioned 100% Placement was achieved this year, which was possible taking in consideration the combination of the batch and strategy adopted. As such since we are well equipped for such circumstances we do not foresee any difficulty in Placements.


Q10. Do you have any international affiliations?


We have a MoU with Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada, which is one of the oldest University in Canada, for the past 5 years.


Q11. What does your institute offer students outside of academics?


Apart from academics we have students driven clubs like, IGNITE (GK Committee), EUPHORIA (Welfare Committee), EXPANSIVO (Cultural Committee), Book Club, MAXCELLENCE (Marketing Club) and NUMMARIA (Finance Club) where the students show case their talents and prepare themselves  to participate in various competitions held in various institutes.


Q12. What makes your institute stand out among other MBA schools?

Q13. Does your institute offer Scholarships or loans?


Scholarships are considered for economically weak meritorious students.


Q14.  What are future plans for the Institute?


We are in the process of developing customized industry specific curriculum in the area of Automobile Industry – Tool Room to Board Room.


Q15. Do you have any international student exchange programs? If yes explain in detail.


Yes, we have an international student exchange program with Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, Canada, where students passing out of SMOT can opt for higher qualifications at Canada subject to Admission & Visa norms.


Q16. Does SMOT facilitate Internship for students during the course of the program? If yes, explain in detail.


As an integral part of our curriculum, PGDBA students are required to Intern with an organization for a period of 2 months. This Internship has dual objectives. First, it allows the student to apply the concepts learnt in the classroom and develop their ability to define and analyze a specific managerial problem and search for its appropriate solution. Second, it gives the student a chance to experience the present corporate environment and appreciate the interpersonal and influencing skills required to excel in the workplace. With this hand on experience, the students come out of the Internship with a thorough understanding of corporate challenges and its demands.


Q17. How many students were placed this year and what were the sectors they were placed in.


All the students of the current outgoing batch have been placed in IT , Advertising & Financial sectors
