Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012 has come towards its end with only seven testing days left. Almost 50% candidates (1, 14,489) have taken the exam over a period of 13 days. Now those who have already appeared for the test should know what to do next? We are providing here next level of processes and how to get through them:

GD, PI and essay writing: After taking the test most of you must have got a fair idea of your chances of qualifying the exam. The next level is GD (group discussion), PI (personal interview) and essay writing. Almost all B-schools conduct this three staged admission process after the entrance test. CAT test takers must start preparation for the second round of admission process so that they can get through one of their desired B-schools.

You must be thorough with the current affairs. Develop the habit of reading newspapers daily, listening to news channels on TV and practice writing essays within the given time duration. Candidates should devote atleast 2 hours in reading current affairs and latest happenings. This would create general awareness on various topics and give a substance to your argument during GD’s.

Gear up for the next MBA entrance exam: Candidates would have applied for a number of entrance exams. Besides CAT, there are other entrance tests which can get you in one of the reputed B-schools. Few of the exams are – IIFT 2012, SNAP 2012, IRMA 2012 and XAT 2013. First and foremost thing to keep in mind is the difference in paper pattern of these exams. Identify the differences between CAT and the papers you are taking next before starting your preparation. Focus on your weaker areas. Learn from the mistakes you did while preparing for CAT 2012. In case you could not perform well in CAT 2012 its time to be geared up for the next exam. Still the chances for you to enroll in a leading B-school are very bright. Start revising your preparation material. Those who have appeared for CAT in the early half will get an advantage while preparing for the upcoming exams.

Applying to B-schools: As told most of you would have got a fair idea of your chances of getting through in CAT, apply to the business schools as per your expected percentile. The admissions are going on in tier I and tier II B-schools. If you have still not applied, it’s high time, apply now. Prepare a list of your desired B-schools and verify the application details before their closing dates.

So it’s time for you to be thoughtful and act sensibly as you have to prepare for GD, PI and essay writing rounds, prepare for upcoming entrance exams and at the same time apply to B-schools.
