MBA entrance exam season is on its peak and aspirants must be buckling up for the entrance tests lined up. IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) will be conducted on November 25, 2012. Those who have taken CAT this year, half of their preparation is already done as all the sections are same except general awareness.

IIFT test paper checks the candidates’ skills in reading comprehension, quantitative ability, English usage, logical reasoning, data interpretation and general awareness. There is no fixed number of questions to be asked in IIFT, it keeps varying. The test duration is 2 hours. There will be negative marking and 1 / 3rd of the mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Let us go through the paper pattern of IIFT based on 2011 exam:

Reading comprehension

IIFT comprises of separate sections on English usage and reading comprehension. In 2011, the reading comprehension passage comprised of 4 passages followed by 15 questions. The questions were simple and difficulty level varied from easy to moderate.

Quantitative ability

Last year, QA section comprised of 24 questions. The paper had questions on algebra, arithmetic, geometry, probability and P& C. The questions were moderate to difficult.

Data interpretation

DI section comprised of questions given in the form of sets which were time consuming and lengthy. The questions were of moderate difficulty level and simple.

Logical reasoning

LR comprised of 21 questions which were easy to moderate in difficulty level. Some of the questions asked were from verbal logic while others were based on team selection, blood relations, coding-decoding, arrangement, syllogisms, course of action and information-based sets.

English usage

English usage section comprised of 20 questions in 2011. The questions asked were on vocabulary and the sub-topics included antonyms, synonyms, idioms and figures of speech. The remaining questions were based on para-completion, grammar, word jumble and sentence jumble.

General awareness

General awareness section comprised of 21 difficult questions. The questions were asked on both current and static affairs. The type of questions included – business, economy and personality & awards.
