IIM-B supersedes IIM-A in BT B-School Ranking 2011

With the announcement of the CAT 2011 dates, the MBA aspirants have started preparing for the exam even more vigorously for cracking the CAT. This is a very crucial time for all the aspirants since along with preparing hard one is also required to select B-schools for applying and pursuing their MBA program. Most of the students shortlist and apply to B-schools on the basis of their rankings.

Business Today (BT) in their recent issue has released B-school Rankings 2011. The BT B-School Ranking that places IIM –Ahmadabad (IIM-A) on the 3rd position after IIM–Bangalore (IIM-B) as well as IIM-Calcutta has taken everyone by surprise. IIM-A has always held the top position in BT as well as other B-School Ranking surveys. This year BT Ranking exhibited a path-breaking trend of demoting IIM-A from first position to third position and placing IIM-B on the first position.

Another interesting trend that BT survey reflected this year was of 6 IIMs – IIM-B, IIM-C, IIM-A, IIM-I, IIM-L and IIM-K topped the chart leaving behind institutions such as FMS Delhi, XLRI Jamshedpur and ISB Hyderabad.

B-Schools who climbed UP the ladder:

IIM-Kozhikode, IIM Shillong, SCMHRD Pune, DMS IIT Delhi and SP jain Mumbai all went up the ranking ladder this year in comparison to 2010. TISS Mumbai was ranked at number 18 this year in comparison to 32 last year.

B-Schools who climbed DOWN the ladder:

Where there were B-Schools who were faring better than last year, there were B-Schools which lost their existing positions in 2010 and climbed down the ladder. DMS IIT Roorkee slipped from 17th position to 29th position in the 2011 BT survey. KJ Somaiya also slipped to number 30 this year.  

Basis of the Survey:

Business Today (BT) and Nielsen conducted this survey. The scores of the survey are based on perceptions of 5 groups: - Current MBA students, MBA aspirants, recruiters, company executives and faculty.
