IIM Kozhikode launches satellite campus

Chief Minister of Kerala, Oomen Chandy on June 9, 2012 inaugurated the satellite campus of Indian Institute of Management -Kozhikode (IIM-K) at the Infopark campus near Kakkanad based in Kochi.

Officials from the institute revealed that the new campus will focus on executive education, and also increase the courses offered to cater to middle and senior level executives. The new campus will offer part-time and full-time programmes for senior and middle level executives.

The new campus will offer a one year Executive MBA programme, two year part-time programmes and various other short term management courses. The move is aimed at improving the management skills of executives, to make Indian IT sector more competitive.

 The center will also focus on inclusive education by setting up a finishing school that would provide training to the marginalized sections of the society. This will help them to contribute with the mainstream development in India.

The satellite campus aims at developing executives who are able and motivated but lack formal management education. Sources from the institute revealed that the campus has been set up at Kochi to promote growth and development of business and industry.

The postgraduate programme for executives (PGPE) will be a full-time residential programme for duration of one year.

The unique programme aims at developing senior level executives. The eligibility criterion includes a first class- degree with at least 8years of work experience at managerial positions. Selection for the course will be conducted based on psychometric analysis, interview and the candidate's performance in the GMAT. The programme will be spread over 40 weeks with 800 hours of study. The programme also has an international component.

The course spread over three terms will cover important topics such as public enterprises, infrastructure, consumer markets, family business, retail services, entrepreneurship and managerial skills. The course will also include an 8 week internship. This is aimed at helping develop skills to run sustainable businesses in India, Africa, North America and West Europe.

The postgraduate program meant for software professionals is a 2-year part-time, non-residential program. The duration of the course is 100 weeks. Candidates need a first class degree and three years of work experience in the software industry to be eligible for the course. Selection will be done on the basis of an interview, psychometric analysis and GMAT/EMAT scores. The programmes will begin by the end of October.
