IIM-Ranchi will commence a two-day event entitled “HR Conclave” today, September 21, 2012 to address the rising challenges in the human and industrial areas. The theme of the event is “Turning the tide on unrest in the workforce” and will witness veterans from leading brands such as Tata Steel, Maruti, Hewitt and Britannia.

This is a move taken by IIM-Ranchi to bring together industry experts from top organizations to deliberate over the entire range of issues related to the topic. IIM-Ranchi is the only IIM where a course on HRM (Human Resource Management) is available.

The two-day event would witness experts seeking assessment of divergent views, various nuances and different approaches. The IIMs need to devise a sustainable framework which can help business leaders to meet the emerging HR challenges in an efficient way.

The event would emphasize on the need to review HR practices within the domain of present labour laws. The recent incidence of violence at Maruti Manesar Plant has led several B-schools including IIMs to review their human resource curriculum.

The growth of service sector after liberalization has led organizations to focus on HR management issues such as talent acquisition, employee engagement, organization development and compensation. They need to review their labour laws and labour relations as they are the key source of company’s progress.

 Sources from IIM-Ranchi expressed that the event would assess aspects of conflict management, work-life balance, strategy alignment, compensation policies and innovations in labour laws. IIM-Ranchi is planning to start a full time program on industrial relations as well as increase IR component in its HRM course.
