The IIM-U (Indian Institute of Management-Udaipur) will begin its academic session from today, June 25, 2012. The institute has shifted its campus to Mohan Lal Sukhdia University in Udaipur.
This year also the institute fulfilled its target of admitting more number of female candidates by enrolling 27% female students against the 15% admitted in 2011. IIM-U gives extra points to non-engineering background students and female candidates.
Institute aims at encouraging more number of female students and non-engineers to IIM. Sources from IIM-U expressed happiness over girls performing better than boys and expect the number of women candidates to reach 30% by next year. Short-term certificate course on women entrepreneurship offered by the institute has been a great success.
This year, institute has assigned 50% weightage to CAT score, 20% to personal profile which includes work experience (30%), academic background (40%), non-engineers (15%), female candidates (15%) and 30% to personal interview.
The institute will begin its second batch of postgraduate program for the session 2012-14 with a total of 110 students including 30 female students holding a maximum CAT score of 99.5 percentile.
Till now, 85% of the total batch-size is from engineering background and remaining from commerce and arts background. Institute has 12 full time faculties this year. IIM-U will also call guest lecturers from IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Ahmadabad and IIM-Indore for its second year students. This year institute has hiked the total number of seats to 110 from 57 of 2011.
Sources from IIM-U revealed that the institute will also contribute in the growth of the state. Postgraduate program students would be encouraged to take part in different social activities.
The IIM allotted hostels to the students who had reached institute 2 days before the inauguration ceremony. A land has been allotted to IIM-U at Balicha on Udaipur-Ahmadabad highway. It will take another 2-3 years to complete the construction process. IIM-U will have its new campus ready by 2015.
