The surge in the number of CAT application forms sold this year is indicative of the fact that more number of aspirants will be appearing for the exam. When compared to last year the registration number for CAT 2012 has gone up by about 4% indicating that B-Schools still offer an attractive future for many aspirants.  As per the IIMs and Prometric, 2.14 lakh vouchers were sold by the time the registrations closed for CAT 2012. This is 9, 000 more than last year’s figure of 2.05 lakh.

Over 10000 aspirants from Rajasthan will take the CAT 2012 entrance exam. To the utmost surprise, the number of females taking the test has gone up since the last few years.

In 2011, about 7000 state students participated in the exam while this year the figures have gone up by 20%. Experts revealed that Rajasthan will witness students from other states as well such as Haryana and Madhya Pradesh who will come to Rajasthan to take the exam.

Similarly, Ludhiana is also reported to witness about 700 students taking the CAT exam this year.

The proportion of girls taking the exam in previous years was only 20:80 whereas this year, it has gone up to 40:60 which implies that 40% of the total candidates will be females this year.

Students have realized that enrolling in a local institute for an MBA degree will not get a promising career, so they are putting all their efforts to crack CAT exam and get into reputed institutes such as IIMs.

CAT will be held from October 11 to November 6, 2012. This year CAT will have 2 sections. Paper will begin with quantitative ability and DI (Data Interpretation) followed by verbal ability and logical reasoning – each section comprising 30 questions.

Also the duration of the exam will be 2.2 hours without any break. There will be time bound sections where candidates will get 70 minutes for each section.

CAT 2012 Results will be declared by January 11, 2013, tentatively.
