Students with prior work-ex dominate IIM-Calcutta 2012-14 batch

The 2012-14 batch of IIM-Calcutta has a total of 462 students of which about 77% has prior work experience against the figures of last batch (68%).

This year the batch has nearly 65% of students with over 1 year of work experience compared to 50% in the last couple of years.

About 13% of students are with work experience of over 3 years, with few having a maximum of 8 years of experience. The average work experience of PGP1 batch student is 21 months. This is slightly more than the previous year when the average work experience was 18 months.

The 2012-14 batch has nearly 51 women students, approximately 4% more than the 2011-13 batch.

24% students of the PGP1 batch are IIT graduates, 13% are from NITs and 53% students have come from other Indian engineering colleges. Almost 94% students of the batch are engineers whereas 3% are with pure science background. The remaining 3% students hold a degree in management, commerce, arts or medicine. It also includes students with unconventional educational background such as hotel management and design engineering.

Infact nearly 4% students have degrees from colleges abroad such as Harvard, London School of Economics, Duke University (USA), Singapore Management University, NTU (Singapore), NUS, University of Toronto and Academy of Art University.
