Gujarat has also accepted NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in medical and dental colleges across the state. From 2013 onwards, state level entrance exams such as GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), Pre-Medical Test and others will be replaced by a common entrance test – NEET.
The state accepted the single entrance test after the Union government approved the request of Gujarat and other states to hold NEET in regional languages. The academicians of the state have expressed that the syllabus of state board is better than the NEET syllabus which will give leverage to the students of Gujarat.
About 85% medical seats will be reserved for the students from Gujarat while remaining 20% will be filled by students from all-India quota. The 50% of the maximum percentile secured by the candidate in the all-India NEET merit list will be taken as the minimum score.
The exam will be of 3 hours duration comprising of 180 marks. The state also clarified that if a candidate fails to score required NEET marks for admission to the medical colleges in Gujarat, then merit can be brought down after taking approval from Union government.
NEET will be conducted on May 12, 2013 for science (HSC) B group students. Presently, Surat, Ahmedabad and Vadodra have been declared as the exam centers. The felicitation centers will be formed in Surat, Vadodra, Rajkot and Ahmedabad.
