Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on 12th December, 2011 declared that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2012 will now be postponed to 2013-2014. The decision was made taking into account the objections raised by many States against NEET-UG (NEET-Undergraduate) seeking exemption from NEET 2012.
Earlier, the Health Ministry had written a petition to Supreme Court to defer NEET- UG 2012 to 2013-2014. As a result, the Supreme Court has agreed to the petition and given a 1 year stay on NEET- UG. As a consequence, CBSE has now announced All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) 2012 notification in a press release.
The AIPMT is conducted by CBSE, Delhi for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses in several medical colleges of India. The decision of Medical Council of India (MCI) to introduce NEET for undergraduate courses in 2012 had put a question mark on AIPMT’s existence this year. The medical aspirants were also in dilemma about which exam to prepare for, NEET UG or AIPMT?
However, the decision of Supreme Court to defer NEET UG by 1 year has given a sense of relief to the medical aspirants. With the announcement of deferring NEET by 1 year, CBSE also declared the dates for AIPMT 2012.
The AIPMT preliminary examination will be held on April 1, 2012 and the final examination will take place on May 13, 2012. The eligibility criteria, exam centers, syllabus and paper pattern for AIPMT 2012 will remain the same as those of the AIPMT 2011.
The Board will soon issue the schedule for the submission of AIPMT 2012 application forms.
