Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH-CET) 2012 held on March 11, surprised many candidates who took the exam. Candidates were hoping that this year the exam would be easy as this was the last MHCET exam this year, but that was not the case.  The Logical Reasoning and Visual Reasoning area was quite tough this year and the paper was lengthier than expected.

There was a greater emphasis on visual reasoning- 30 questions as compared to last year's 25 questions. There were 5 questions on probability, last year the test did not have any question on probability. Last year, the test did not have any question on mathematical inequality, but this year there were 5 questions on mathematical inequality. In the verbal section, two new question types made their entry this time-paracompletions and sentence starter. Reading comprehension passages were fewer and shorter.

Last year 28 questions were from RCs, but this year this number has dropped to 2 passages, 5 questions each. There was no question on cause-effect, course of action, statement assumption. The number of verbal reasoning questions has decreased compared to last year. Cluster CR questions were also fewer in number.

MH-CET is a single stage examination. There are 200 questions in total and the duration of the paper is of 150 minutes. There is a plus point for test takers as there are no negative markings in the paper, there are no sectional division unlike other management exams. The question paper comprises questions from Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation/Sufficiency and Reasoning.

All in all, a score of 130-135 should be good enough to make it to JBIMS provided you do well in the second stage of assessment. If you have notched up 115-120, then you have a very decent chance of getting a call from Sydenham, KJ Somaiya and Wellingkar. Anything above 100 should fetch a call from SIES, Chetana, MET and PUMBA.
