Over 79410 candidates qualify MHCET 2012 in Maharashtra
The MH-CET 2012 Results are declared and more than 79410 candidates have been successful in qualifying the entrance exam. The MH-CET 2012 entrance exam was conducted by DTE (Directorate of Technical Education) on March 11, 2012 where a total of about 82764 applicants took the test of which 3354 students were disqualified due to various reasons. Admissions for the successful students will be done against a total of about 34000 seats available in over 400 colleges across Maharashtra.
Nearly, 9226 students registered for the MHCET 2012 entrance exam from Nagpur division comprising of 6 districts. Out of which more than 8000 students actually took the test at 3 centers. But the number of applicants taking the exam this year was far less than that in 2009 (over 19000 applicants) and 2012 (11600 applicants).
As per DTE officials, the MAH-MBA/MMS-CET was held at 21 centers in the division; of which 19 were located in Nagpur while 1 each in Chadrapur and Bhandara. There are 5490 seats available in the division for admission to 60 colleges. However, in 2011, about 2677 seats were left vacant due to which the institutes had to suffer financial loss.
Earlier the exam was scheduled for February 26, 2012 but since the dates were clashing with AICTE’s (All India Council for Technical Education) CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test), it was deferred. Many colleges in the division have formally declared that they will accept CMAT scores too for admissions this year.
The state government has already given its nod for the CMAT which indicates that MAH-MBA/MMS-CET 2012 will be conducted for the last time by DTE.
The entrance exam provides admission to courses offered in university managed, government, university departments and unaided institutes in Maharashtra. However, the DTE officials are concerned about the management course losing its appeal among the students in the state. Though the number of management seats is increasing at a faster pace, many seats go vacant every year particularly in new MBA colleges. In 2011, more than 5000 seats went vacant across Maharashtra.
