Hindu College to launch Actuarial Science course on August 16, 2012

Hindu College is all set to launch Actuarial science as an add-on course on August 16, 2012. Hindu College will be the Delhi University’s (DUs) first college to offer this course in association with an insurance company. The aim is to increase students’ employability rate in insurance firms.

The applicants must be of minimum 18 years and should have secured atleast 85% in mathematics in Class XII. There is no upper age limit to apply. The graduates and post graduates with 55% marks in maths or maths related subjects can also apply. The faculty taking up the course will be from college and outside. The students will do their internship at Metlife.

The course involves the use of statistics and mathematics to know the financial effect of future measures. Students graduating as actuaries will be mostly employed in insurance firms taking into account their key roles as risk assessors.

Through this course students will be prepared for the exams held by the Institute of Actuaries of India. Exams are conducted twice a year and include 12 compulsory papers such as statistics, maths and general insurance.  Currently the college is expecting a batch of about 25-30 students and if the course receives good response, another section may be added. Till now the college was offering add-on courses in languages.
