The education minister on December 20, 2011 announced that Karnataka will introduce CBSE syllabus in science stream (Physics, Chemistry, mathematics, biology) in its Pre-University College (PUC) from 2012-13.
The first year PUC students (class 11) will follow CBSE syllabus from 2012-13 and continue with it in second year (class 12) also. However, those who are in Second year of PUC (class 12) currently would follow state syllabus next year (2012-13).
The main aim of introducing CBSE syllabus is to prepare the students so that they can compete in all-India exams effectively.
Moreover, students will also be offered a bridge course after SSLC (class 10) to ease their pressure while switching over to the CBSE syllabus and the course will also include teachers training.
New text books have been introduced in the curriculum for 5th and 8th class students from the coming academic session (2012-13), whereas the remaining classes will have new text books from 2013-14.
Course materials based on CBSE are being prepared by resource person following the National Curriculum Framework 2005. Various experts, former education ministers and NGOs have been consulted extensively while upgrading the content.
