Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai was established by the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali in the year 1977. It was named after Prof. L. N. Welingkar past principal of R.A. Podar College and an eminent educationist. It is part of the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, Pune which manages around 43 educational institutes in Maharashtra. Some of their well known institutes are the Ruia College of Arts and Science (Mumbai), Podar College of Commerce (Mumbai) and S.P. College (Pune) apart from Welingkar Institute of Management. The institute has an equally efficient and well - endowed campus in Bengaluru, the IT capital of India.

Welingkar started its journey by offering short term diploma programs catered to the needs of professionals, helping them progress in their careers. It was the first A-grade management institute to have obtained ISO 9001 - 2000, certified by BVQI. Over the years it has established itself and introduced many new diploma and post graduate distance learning programs. From 1984, it also offered full time management programs. Its core strength lies in identifying new sectors and providing quality education in those areas like retail, e-biz, design & innovation and commodity trading among others.

About the Distance PGDBA Course Offered

Welingkar Institute of Management is an autonomous institute and all distance learning programs offered by it are autonomous in nature, but it is one of the few institutions whose distance learning programs have been accredited by Distance Education Council (DEC), a body of the Central Govt. of India.

PGDBA is a distance learning program. The curriculum is at par with the distance learning MBA offered by leading universities. The two year program is divided into 4 semesters. The registration validity of these 2 year PG programs is 3 years. The registration validity is subject to payment of full program fees as per the payment schedule. While the program duration is of 2 years only, the additional one year is given to students to submit/clear all pending exams/project report.

In case, a student is not able to complete the program within 3 years, he is required to pay Rs.7500/- re-registration fees for getting one more year extension to clear the balance subject(s) or to submit the project.

The first two semesters are generic, common to all and cover general topics of management. The last two semesters contain specialization related subjects. There will be 6 subjects in semester III & 4 subjects + 1 project report in semester IV. The specializations which are available are in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Retail Management, General Management, International Business, E-Business, Banking, Investment and Insurance.
