Kolkata girl bags first rank in Indian Economic Service Examination
An alumnus of Jadhavpur University (JU), Kolkata, Tamanna Sinha has bagged the first rank in Indian Economic Service (IES) examination. The IES is an entrance exam for candidates who want to make their career in formulating important economic policies for India.

She was placed at 10th rank in post-grad and qualified the IES written exam in 2009 but could not clear the interview. She devoted 2010 for her preparation and then again took the exam in 2011.
She revealed that IES is a competitive exam and some best minds compete for only 29 seats that are up for grab. Though she had done fairly well in the exam, Tamanna was not sure that she will get through the exam. The IES Results declared on June 10, 2012 surprised her. She has made her parents proud.

But this has to be done within the national centralized structure. The state also has to create a system for utilizing the funds properly and project execution.
West Bengal should bring in place a rule where proper prices and taxes are levied to services and subsidies are given to people who do not have enough money to pay for the services.
Tamanna expressed doubts over advantages of welcoming FDI in retail without providing any security to farmers.
