The MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) has released a circular for all Central Universities including Allahabad University (AU) notifying them not to give 4.5% sub-quota to minority students. The direction was issued as the reservation issue is under consideration in the Supreme Court.

With this direction, AU will not assign 4.5 sub-quota for the minority students of OBC category. In its place OBC category students would now be entitled for entire 27% reservation.

This came after the AU on May 25, 2012 had sought clarification on the implementation of Office Memorandum (OM) related to 4.5% sub-quota for minority students.

The OM stated that 4.5% seats of the OBC category reservation (27%) shall be reserved for Minorities and non-creamy layer of OBC category and the remaining 22.5% will have to be filled up by Non-minority and non creamy layer of OBC category.

Since the AU received the OM on June 31, 2012, the core admission committee of the university approached the MHRD for further instructions on the issue.

Following the letter received by the university, admission cell director stated that now AU will continue to assign entire 27% reservation to OBC quota students
