Patna University (PU) is expected to establish a college of journalism to encourage media education and research in Bihar. Vice-chancellor of the university announced this on Saturday, July 28, 2012 while inaugurating a 2-year MA course in journalism and mass communication at PU Hindi department. The proposed college would be based on the model of Columbia School of Journalism for imparting training in all parts of journalism to the scholars.

The university will soon have a separate department of journalism and mass communication for encouraging research and teaching in the field. This would be the first of its kind of department in the state. Further mass media students were suggested to learn English to do well in Hindi Journalism as well. The existing course would be bilingual.

The VC himself is expected to take the classes of journalism. About 7-8 students of MA would attend the UNDP-sponsored workshop on rural journalism to take place on August 8 and 9, 2012.
