The Minister of State (HRD), Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Government of India shed light on the several Scholarships for students pursing higher education abroad in Engineering, Medicine, Law, Agriculture and Arts.
There are various Scholarship programmes offered by the Government of India like National Overseas Scholarship for Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe(ST) Students, Padho Pardesh, Dr. Ambedkar Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loan for Overseas Studies for the Students belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Economically Backward Classes (EBCs) and Overseas Doctoral Fellowship Programme.
The various Scholarship programmes offered by the Government of the country to students visiting foreign countries for higher education are described below:
National Overseas Scholarship for SC Students
The programme is put into service by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Under this proposal, economic support is provided for pursuing Post Graduation degree and Ph.D. in International universities in specializations like Agricultural Science, Social Science, Pure and Applied Sciences, etc. The maximum family income of the candidates or their parents will be Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum according to the scheme and the number of awards offered will be 100 per annum.
National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students
The proposal is executed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The programme will facilitate the commendable ST students with financial help for pursuing Master degrees, Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral Research Programmes in universities abroad in the areas like Science and Engineering and Technology. The maximum family income of the candidates or their parents will be Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum.
Dr. Ambedkar Scheme of Interest Subsidy on Educational Loan for Overseas Studies for the Students belonging to OBC and EBCs
The scheme is realized by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The purpose of the scheme is to endow the brilliant OBC and EBC students with significant financial backing to make opportunities available for them to practice higher education in foreign universities in the field of Engineering, Medical, Arts and Agriculture. The maximum family income of the candidates or their parents is Rs. 3 lakh per annum for OBCs and Rs. 1 lakh per annum for EBCs. 50% of the expenditure is allocated for girl students.
The scheme is implemented by Ministry of Minority Affairs. Financial assistance is provided to minority students under this scheme for courses at Post Graduation level, M.Phil and Ph.D. in the international universities in the areas of Engineering, Medical, Agriculture and Arts.The maximum family income of the candidates or their parents is Rs. 6.00 lakh per annum.
Overseas Doctoral Fellowship Programme
The programme is employed by Science and Engineering Research Board, a constitutional body for Department of Science and Technology. The goal of the scheme is to put together national competence where the contribution of proficient researchers in the specialized areas to the country is lesser. The selected student is offered with US $ 24,000 per annum for a span of 4 years to pursue doctoral research program in Medicine, Science, Engineering and Technology from worldwide renowned universities.
