Top Colleges in Mumbai

KC College of Arts, Commerce and Science:

Kishinchand Chellaram College of Arts, Commerce and Science was established in 1954 under the aegis of the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board. It was the second institution that the management set up in Bombay after it relocated itself in the city, following the aftermath of partition. The institution was reaccredited A grading by NAAC.

The college thrives on innovating, reinventing and being a cut above the rest. It is a temple of knowledge, in the true sense, having every course of study of the University of Mumbai, under the roof. It also provides the best of infrastructure that the best of surroundings is conducive to gaining knowledge.

Sophia College for Women:

Sophia College for Women established in 1941, is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The governing body of the society for the higher education of women in India runs the college. The religious sisters of the sacred heart of Jesus and lay staff form the staff of the college. The society of the sacred heart was founded in France in 1800, by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.

It is dedicated mainly to the all-round education of youth. Sophia College is a Christian minority institution. Students of all denominations are welcome. The main goal of Sophia is the relentless search for wisdom, through an education that is holistic and transformative.

K. J Somaiya College of Science and Commerce:

K. J Somaiya College of Science and Commerce is a constituent and affiliated non-government aided college under the auspices of the Somaiya Vidyavihar. It is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra and affiliated to University of Mumbai and accredited by NAAC with A grade.

The aim of the college is to equip the students with knowledge and skills of their chosen vocation and inculcate values to provide them opportunities for all round growth and prepare them for life.

Ramnarain Ruia College:

Ramnarain Ruia College established in 1937, is the first college in Mumbai to be started by the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, Pune. The college is affiliated to University of Mumbai and conducts courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Today, Ruia College enjoys the reputation of being one of the finest institutions of higher learning in the country.

Its outstanding performance in the field of curricular and co-curricular activities has very considerably enhanced its prestige and brought it substantial financial assistance from the University Grants Commission, the C S I R and many other equally reputed bodies.

SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce:

SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce was established in 1960 by Shri Y. B. Chavan, the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra to serve the ever-growing educational needs of students from North and Central Mumbai Suburbs and was the gift of the South Indians in Mumbai to the then newly-born State of Maharashtra.

The commerce stream at the degree level was started in 1980-81. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and the college has an impressive strength of over 4,000 students drawn from all sections of this cosmopolitan city.

Elphinstone College:

Elphinstone College was established in 1835.  This was a tribute to the departing Governor of Bombay, Mountstuart Elphinsotne (1819-27). In 1956, Elphinstone College was separated from the High School and became an institution in its own right. It was affiliated to the University of Mumbai in 1860. The institution is known for its open access to students from all strata of the society.

The college has an enviable location, which is also historically significant. The building of the college with its gothic architecture has been classified as a grade 1 heritage structure. It has recently been restored by the Kala Ghoda Association and has regained its luminous look.

Jai Hind College:

Jai Hind College was established in 1948 by a small band of dedicated teachers of the D.J Sind College Karachi.The college has become one of the premier educational institutions of Mumbai. The objective of the institution is to continue to expand while imparting useful and meaningful education, so that the students will emerge as good citizens of India.

The motto of the college, I will and I can, encourages and inspires the students to break the pre - conceived boundaries of performance. It encourages them to dream and to use the latest innovative ideas and technology to realize those dreams. Jai Hind students truly believe that nothing is impossible and that the sky is the limit for them.
