UG Commerce courses seem to be hot favorites at Lucknow University
The commerce stream seems to have caught the attention of students looking for undergraduate courses at the Lucknow University, with the number of applicants for commerce courses increasing every day. So far, the university has received 1,082 applications for the commerce stream, out of the 3,320 application received in total. Last year, the university received 1,348 applications for the stream until June 7th, and with more than two weeks left before the sale applications end, officials feel the numbers are going to increase this year.
Officials from the Lucknow University revealed that the number of applicants for commerce courses has seen a steady increase in the last two years. They say that a lot of students are opting for commerce courses as they are job-oriented and offer better salaries. Arts and science courses on the other hand, have seen a drop in the number of applicants. There are only 566 for BSc (Mathematics), 235 for B.Sc (Biology) and 416 applications for BA.
Other professional courses too seem to find only a few takers with the university receiving 142 applications for the BBA program and 125 for the BCA program.
While 129 students have applied for the B.A (Hons), 297 students are seeking admission to the B.Com (Hons) course.
Officials from National PG College, the only autonomous institute in Lucknow, said that they have received about 1,600 applications for the B.Com course, while receiving only 250 for B.Sc and 300 for BA. They added that as many as 80% of the graduates opt to pursue MBA programs and commerce gives them a very good foundation for the same.
Sources from Jain Narain College said that although they are accepting applications only from 11th of June, they are expecting the applicants for commerce streams to outnumber others.
