What is NIFT ?

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT is committed to academic excellence in fashion education. The vision of the institute embraces challenges and provides the impetus in setting highest academic standards. NIFT continues to strive to be nothing but the best.

Getting admission in NIFT is really tough and to crack this difficult exam one needs full dedication and good preparation. Every year thousands of students appear in this exam to secure their seat at NIFT. The NIFT 2014 is a paper based and computer based test. The paper based test 1 will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 and paper based test 2 and computer based test will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014.

Eligibility for NIFT 2014 –

For B.Des:

(Fashion Design/Leather Design/Accessory Design/Textile Design/Knitwear Design/Fashion Communication)

  • +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized central/state board of secondary examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or;
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB) or;
  • Any public school/board/university examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system or;
  • A pass grade in the senior secondary school examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects or;
  • 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

For M.Des:

  • Undergraduate degree from any institute/university recognized by law in India or;
  • Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only.
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

Application Procedure for NIFT 2014

Candidates can apply online at www.nift.ac.in or https://applyadmission.net/nift2014

Guidelines for applying online may be referred for the purpose. The applicant need not buy the admission prospectus as the prospectus is available at NIFT website www.nift.ac.in free of cost. However, the application fees has to be paid either through online payment gateway or through bank demand draft issued in favour of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

  • Fees for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) Category: Rs. 1200/- through payment gateway or demand draft.
  • Fees for SC/ST/PHP Category: Rs. 600/- through payment gateway or demand draft.

Mode of Payment:Credit cards/debit cards and demand draft

Paper Pattern for NIFT 2014 –

  • The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the program opted.
  • The objective type tests are subject to negative marking at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer. Each right answer will be awarded 1 mark.

The NIFT exam consists of 3 to 4 parts depending on the programs for which the candidates have applied. The candidates are administered with the help of Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), Managerial Ability Test and Situation Test.

Important Dates –

  • Last date for online registration: Friday, January 10, 2014.
  • Last date of online registration with late fees of Rs. 5000/- (in addition to the applicable application fees) through credit/debit card only: Friday, January 17, 2014.
  • Date of NIFT admission test:
    • Paper based test 1 for all programs: Sunday, February 09, 2014.
    • Paper based test 2 for B.Des and M.Des programs: Sunday, February 23, 2014.
    • Computer based test for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and MFT: Sunday, February 23, 2014.
