New Hot Destinations for Indian Students to Study Abroad
Indian students are always inclined towards pursuing their higher studies from abroad. UK, U.S. and Australian universities have always been the hot favorite destinations for students in India. But with the changing scenario these countries are slowly losing their charm among Indian students. New destinations such as Continental Europe, Canada, Singapore, China and New Zealand are emerging as new hot spots for overseas education.
There are a number of factors responsible for this shift. According to ET, the number of Indian students who chose Australia as the most preferred destination for overseas education has dripped down by 77% in 2010 as compared to 2009. One of the obvious reasons for this drop may be that the Indian students residing in Australia had to suffer attacks.
As per ET, 41,350 Indians went to UK for higher education in 2010 as compared to 57,000 the previous year. US which was once the most preferred destination for Indians for studying abroad has also lost its place as the number of Indians taking admission for higher studies slipped by 32% in 2010 as compared to the previous year. Strict visa rules in UK and US job market slump down may be the reasons for decline in the number of Indian students going to study abroad in the UK and the US.
The shift has come as a boon to Canada as the number of Indian students choosing Canada as the study abroad destination has raised to 280% in 2010 as compared to 2008 (source : ET). France is also noticing a rise of 20% Indian students every year. Germany witnessed a rise of 15% in the number of Indian students in session 2009-10 as compared to the previous year. The number of Indian students choosing Singapore has gone up by 20%.
With new study abroad destinations emerging a rapid rate, the countries with a legacy in grabbing international students – U.S., UK and Australia certainly need to gear up.Do you like this story?
