The UK Border Agency (UKBA) is accepting online visa applications in partnership with VFS Global and Deputy High commissions in India to help people apply for a visa to enter the United Kingdom (UK).
The UKBA has introduced online method of visa application process in order to make the applicants familiar with the process. Applicants applying for visas under the point based system are already required to apply online. The online application method is now expanding to all other categories of the UK visa application process.
The following sections will help you understand the online application procedure for your visa if you are currently living in India, Bhutan or Afghanistan.

When to apply:
You can apply for the visa up to 3 months before your date of travel to the UK.

How to apply:
To apply for a visa, you must complete the online visa application form. You will need to print out and sign on the completed form. On completing the application form online, you will receive an email message containing your application number also known as the GWF reference which you should make a note of. Once the online application form is completed, only minor manual alterations to this form will be accepted for submission at the visa application centre. If you do not have access to a printer when you apply, you will be able to log in and print out the form later.
As part of your application, you will need to visit one of the visa application centres in South and North Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Jalandhar and Kolkata.
Prior appointment has to be made with the visa application centres before visiting them. Appointments can be made on completing the online application. To make prior appointments, please visit the Booking your appointment page that will guide you on the appointment process.
Before you apply, you must prepare the supporting documents that you will need.
Be ready to enroll your fingerprints and photograph (known as biometric information) at one of the visa application centres and be able to pay the visa application fee.

If you are applying under the points-based system, you should provide all the documents specified in the guidance for your visa category. For each document, you should also provide any information or explanation that may help the agency to make a decision regarding the visa.
If you are applying for any other type of visa, you should provide documents that support the statements that you make in your visa application; and show that the information in your application is true.
Only documents submitted with your application will be considered. You cannot submit documents after you have completed your application at the visa application centre, unless the staff asks you for them.
For every document that you provide, you must include the original document and a photocopy. This includes a copy of your passport bio-data page (the page containing your photograph). Please ensure that the photocopies are of good quality and can be read easily. If you do not provide a photocopy of each document, your original documents may not be returned to you.

Payment at the Visa application centers:
You can pay the visa application fee at the visa application centre when you submit your visa application. Standard Chartered Bank facilities are located in all visa application centres for this purpose. The Standard Chartered Bank will apply a service charge of Rs.260 (inclusive of taxes) for this facility.
