Oxford University Falls in Higher Education Ranking

The QS/Times Higher Education Rankings for 2009 are out with some interesting developments. Though British and American varsities dominated the list of the world's 100 best universities, more institutions from Southeast Asia made their way onto it. The number of universities from Southeast Asian countries like Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Singapore went up from 14 to 16, with the University of Tokyo the highest ranked Asian institution at the number 22 position.




Though the prestigious Oxford University fell a place to number five, Britain held fort by grabbing four places in the top 10 and 18 in the top 100.  North American universities fell from 42 to 36 in the top 100. The top 20 universities of the QS/Times Higher Education Rankings are as follows –

  15. Stanford (USA)
  16. Australian National (Australia)
  17. McGill (Canada)
  18. Michigan (USA)
  19. ETH Zurich (Switzerland)
  20. Edinburgh (Britain)
