Singapore's Lasalle
Lasalle is exactly what it means in French if split (La Salle) – a classroom, it’s a huge classroom in the entertainment and cultural hub of Singapore. The USP of their campus is that they claim to facilitate interaction with the streets of Singapore by a glass façade and gateless walls which I think is the greatest thing a college can do. What we don’t understand here is that the more you try to constraint students the more they will rebel. The more force you use, the stronger the push will be.
 La Salle specializes in fashion and design and is one of Singapore’s premier institutes. It is quite surprising that Singapore is the emerging fashion capital in the world right now. Some of the best institutes are here, call me ignorant but I always thought it to be one of those tourist places and just that. But Singapore is strong on its way to becoming the global arts city, quite like how India has been planning to host the Olympics for ever but I’m pretty sure at the rate at which Singapore is going, it’ll come through. They have both post-graduate and under-graduate courses, but very few since it’s a specialized college. They have art history, arts and cultural management, design and media arts and even art therapy (whatever that is!). To apply to this university, one needs to have their O level credits or other equivalents, very obviously a bachelor’s degree in a related field for a master’s course and also TOEFL or IELTS test scores. Some courses also require some portfolios (especially design courses) and auditions. It’s different and more valued from other universities because Lasalle offers a comprehensive art program dealing with the contemporary arts which a lot of universities are afraid to.
