The Tisch School of Arts - NYUI suppose, it was after the mention that the New York University’s film course got in ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa’ that so many young people around me have been jumping up and down for enrolling themselves in NYU’s film course. Before I say anything further, I must warn such people that NYU does not guarantee the presence of a hottie like Imran Khan! But it does guarantee a lot of other things! ![]() NYU Film School is often called the Tisch School of Arts and it is one of the 15 schools that make up New York University. Founded in 1965, Tisch is best known for its acting and film department. Every year there are a large number of students who enrol themselves in various courses. The schools offers BFA, MFA, MA, MPS and Phd degrees. There are 5 divisions and each division has its own departments that specialize in certain subjects pertaining to acting, theatre, films, photography, sound, etc. The School has some 14 departments in all, some of the most prominent being, The Department of Dance, Undergraduate Film, Department of Filming and Photography, Theatre Studies, Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music, etc. The Undergraduate Acting Programme and the Interactive Telecommunications Programme are some of the popular courses that the Tisch School offers. The undergraduate film course at Tisch is a four year course where all the students are given a complete over view of all the aspects of film and television productions. This department also offers animation as a part of its course where students are taught various animation techniques. The film course also makes students write a lot of small scripts throughout the term. But the Tisch school has a separate department for Dramatic Writing. This is a relatively small department where students are taught play writing and screen writing. Neil LaBute, Kenneth Lonergan and Dough Wright, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama are some famous alumni of this department. The undergraduate department of Drama of Tisch has produced many successful students who are now working in films, television and theatre. Alec Baldwin (Pearl Harbour, Aviator), Julie Benz (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Chris Columbus, (of the Harry Potter and Home Alone fame), Regina Hall (Scary Movie), Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, Lady in the Water) , Debra Messing (Will and Grace), M Night Shyamalan (Signs, The Village, Sixth Sense) are all from the the Tisch School of Arts. Haley Joel Osment of the Sixth Sense fame is right now a current student of the Tisch School. This school has also produced famous Academy and Emmy Award Winners like Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Elmer Bernstein, Jeffrey Wright, etc. Phew!!! Now that’s some success! For both graduate and undergraduate admissions to a particular course, a port folio needs to be submitted to the said department or else auditions are taken. Each department has its own requirements for application. The school also provides scholarships. It has boarding fascilities for students. The approximate expense of an undergraduate student is $52,202.00 per year. This includes everthing, from tuition fees to books to food and lodging. Now, please convert that to rupees because I am very bad at that sort of thing but I think it will come to some 2 crores, 55 lakhs…something along those lines. Hem hem…no…I said nothing! That was NYU’s Tisch School of Arts for you…
