University of South Florida to introduce a course on India studies

University of South Florida's World Centre for India Studies is initiating an undergraduate certificate course in India studies by the end of August, 2012. The university is offering a broad curriculum in Indian history, society, geography, language, politics, philosophy, religion and culture in India. As per the university, the certificate intends to introduce information on Indian society.

For the study abroad programs, Indian students are given a choice to choose the certificate as a substitute coursework with one of the many study abroad programs in India for six credits. Sources from Center for India studies revealed that the students in America are already interested in the program. The aim of the program is to build a really strong foundation for students to know what makes contemporary India what it is today.

As per the  sources from Global Academic Programs, it is important for the University to provide academic information on Indian culture. The certificate is expected to intrigue the students of University of South Florida and inform them about the rich heritage of Indian culture from an academic perspective. It will bring academic recognition of the world’s largest democracy, India and will help it become an important education partner for the US.

The India-focus study abroad program has already commenced Management Information Systems (MIS) students at the Infosys campus in Mysore for about three weeks every summer. The program was started by the South Florida University’s College of Business.
