A special seminar was conducted for undergraduate students and their parents by the United States- India Educational foundation (USIEF), Kolkata on May 4, 2012. The seminar titled’ Undergraduate Admissions: What The University of Chicago, Brown University, Bernard College and Columbia University expect from applicants' had representatives from the four institutes making presentations for students and parents to understand education in the US better.

The presentations began with an introduction to the curriculums at the various universities, co curricular activities and relationship between students and teachers. However, the main focus of the entire seminar was reasons why students should choose US as a study destination. The representatives said that the choices offered, global orientation, excellence and the experience of studying in the US made it a more enriching experience.

While Brown University allows students to opt for subjects based on their interests, the University of Chicago aims at creating a 'philosophy of the mind and body'. Columbia University and Barnard College have collaborated to offer programmes centered on science and liberal arts.

The question and answer session was a very interactive one with parents and students clearing doubts regarding various issues such as SAT scores, procedure to apply, criteria for admission and financial aids. Many found the session helpful as they were clear about processes and the working of universities after the seminar.
