In New Zealand graduates looking forward to extend their horizons of learning by pursuing a postgraduate program or writing research papers have great opportunities. The country provides great cultural diversity and has 8 state-of-the-art research centres equipped with high-speed data pipes. There is also the large IBM super computer centre, popularly known as Bluefern. A huge radio-telescope facility on a fantastic location with a great environment makes New Zealand a tempting option for postgraduate study or research.

Postgraduate degree and research courses:

Almost all the famous universities of New Zealand offer postgraduate study and research programs. One can choose from a variety of subjects: History, Science, Literature, Business, Law, Architecture, Arts and design, Philosophy, and more. Most universities offer both part-time and full-time courses.

  • A minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS or tests equivalent to it.
  • A first-class record of the previous years of study including X and XII standards.
  • A letter of recommendation from a mentor may be required and other certificates may also be needed to be attested.

To apply for adoctorate/research programmein New Zealand, the following requirements have been made mandatory by leading universities:

  • Approval of the university or institution from which you obtained a bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent GPAs (a minimum of 300–400) in the papers in your proposed area of research or study.

One can apply online and also enrol if accepted by the university.

Fee structure:

Although universities have different fee structures, on an average, a post-graduation programme may cost you about NZ$14,000–24,000. A research study programme has a different fee structure from that of a post-graduation program. Each research paper has a specific fee that ranges from NZ$5,500 to NZ$10,500. The fees also depend on the number of years the research might take. Universities in New Zealand also offer a range of scholarships.

New Zealand’s high-end technology and hunger for knowledge give it an edge over other countries. The Kiwi land has produced some great scholars in the field of atomic and genetic sciences and other research areas, making it a great option for further scholastic endeavours.
