Getting a US Visa Will be Easier Now

Bookmark Share
The US Consulate in Chennai has brought down the time taken to get appointment for a visa. The consulate’s new consul for public affairs, Michael P Pelletier, announced that the waiting time is no more than 2 to 3 days even during peak months now. He also said that the consulate has improved the physical infrastructure in the consulate, now the longest anybody has to wait in the initial waiting room is 15 minutes.

One of the reasons for the improvement is the opening of the Hyderabad Consulate, which has shifted the Hyderabad traffic out of Chennai. Pelletier said efforts are on to make the whole visa application and interviewing process less intimidating. One of these is a new ‘virtual consulate’ in Bangalore, a first-of-its-kind in India, which will be launched on Wednesday. This online resource will have all information required for a Bangalorean to obtain a US visa, along with news and tidbits about US’ relationship with Bangalore. Pelletier said despite the economic slowdown, demand for student and travel visas from India remains strong.
